In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to set up a local server on a local computer. We will be going through a step by step process, that will make it super easy and simple to do. if you want to learn more, just read until the last paragraph.
A web designer starts work by setting up a local server with XAMPP, WAMP or MAMP. This is a package software that converts your computer into a local server very quickly.
So, you can easily create a website on your computer using any CMS or content management system without any web hosting service.
Remember, it can only use to create and test the website and themes. You cannot run a website from this server. You can only test the WordPress, Joomla, Shopify theme using it.
In a simple term, XAMP is a software package that can be used to set up a personal server. It is also a cross operating software, that you can use equally on any operating system such as Windows, Mac, and Linux.
So, let’s start working with XAMPP. First, download the latest version of XAMPP from here. Choose software according to your operating system. I am running Windows 10 now, so I’ve selected this version.
Now follow the steps below and set up XAMPP on your computer.
Step – 1:
Disable your antivirus software for a while. Because it prevents some components of XAMPP from being installed. You can restart it after installing the software.
Step – 2:
Quite skype. Otherwise, the port may have errors while launching it. Remember, you must do this every time, when you turn on XAMPP. You can turn on Skype again, after you turn on XAMPP. It will not create any problem. But now, this error is not happening in Windows 10. So, if you are using Windows 10, you don’t have to be turned off Skype.
Step – 3:
Now open the ZIP file and install the software by clicking on the XAMP installer. I am currently using XAMPP 3.2.4. And it is doing a great job. So, use it, if possible.
Now, click on the next button to select the correct components that you want to install on your computer. Install your software by clicking the Next button again to select the correct drive. The default drive is C:/. However, I will suggest you use other drives. Because, if your drive crashes for some reason, you will lose important files and all progress.
So do not install in the system drive. If that is not possible, save your files elsewhere from time to time. You can use other drives such as external hard drives, pen drives, or one drives, drop box, etc.
Click the Install button to install all components on your favorite hard drive. And then click the “Finish” button to finish the installation process.
Now you can turn on the Control Panel, click the Apache and MySQL buttons to turn on these two modules. When the application is turned on, the green sign will be displayed next to the specified component or module:
